  • 1 lb ground beef
  • 4 large potatoes, thinly sliced
  • 1 onion, chopped
  • 2 cups shredded cheddar cheese
  • 1 can (10.75 oz) cream of mushroom soup
  • 1/2 cup milk
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 1/4 cup green onions, chopped (for garnish)


  1. Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C).
  2. Brown the ground beef in a skillet over medium heat; drain excess fat.
  3. Layer half of the sliced potatoes in a greased baking dish.
  4. Spread half of the cooked beef over the potatoes, then half of the chopped onions and cheese.
  5. Repeat the layering with remaining potatoes, beef, onions, and cheese.
  6. In a bowl, mix together the cream of mushroom soup, milk, garlic powder, salt, and pepper. Pour this mixture over the casserole.
  7. Cover with foil and bake for 1 hour.
  8. Uncover and bake for an additional 30 minutes, or until potatoes are tender.
  9. Garnish with green onions before serving.
